Abstract

This scientific project proposes to reflect the insertion of the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe in the "Castas" oil painting, painted by Luis de Mena in 1750, resident in the museum of America in Madrid. The work is relevant for propone unique elements in its composition, such as the Mexican flora, unusual characters and the image of the Our lady of Guadalupe. The picture is understudied and the bibliography apprehended slightly mention the religious image, pointing only to its pictorial distinction in relation to the genre. Thus, we intend to analyze and understand the discourses present in the painting, how was its reception in society and what interest and intention behind the figure of the Virgin. Therefore, the use of new methodological approaches and multiple documents are essentials. (AU)
