Abstract

Focused on sustainable development of civil construction, many constructive systems could be improved by technology, such as the Reciprocal Frame Structures (RFs). They allow the construction of large spans, with little material expenditure. One of the main challenges of these structures is the mechanism of connection between parts, which can be the key to more economical and interesting solutions. Digital technologies can aid in the design, production and assemblage of custom components, resulting in better material utilization, structural safety, and quality and finishing accuracy. This Ph.D research has the objective to develop a new connection system for RF structures using digital technology tools. This proposal for internship abroad aims to contribute to this research through the enhancement of the required knowledge and the improvement of the design, fabrication and assemblage. More specifically, the goal is to refine each connection geometry to ensure an easy and fast assembly process. It is important the presence and participation of an expert about RFs, thus, prof. Olga Popovic Larsen was chosen as the supervisor of this internship. She has many remarkable publications and is the author of one of the most important contemporary books on the subject. She is a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, the 20th best university in the subject of Arts & Design by QS World University Rankings in 2019. There are many different workshops among its facilities, which has equipments that will contribute to the development and improvement of connection prototypes and small-scale structures. As a main result, it is expected to come back to Brazil with a well-developed connection system which will serve as a basis for the development of the cladding system. (AU)
