Abstract

Chronic diseases are characterized by being no communicable, long lasting, slow progression and, in general, have the potential to cause social and physical limitations and great need for attention and care. The cases Chronic diseases are characterized by being no communicable, long lasting, slow progression and, in general, have the potential to cause social and physical limitations and great need for attention and care. The cases of children and adolescents with chronic diseases require family collaboration in the treatment of the disease and demand behavioral, physical and psychological changes. In this context, the mother figure may perceive her child's illness as a threat or challenge to her basic psychological needs and the Coping Motivational Theory emerges as a model for understanding the coping strategies of this potentially stressful event. Thus, the present study seeks to verify associations between coping strategies of the mother in relation to her child's chronic disease and the clinical characteristics of the disease and maternal perceptions about the disease. This is a cross-sectional study and a quantitative approach. Mothers of children with chronic diseases admitted to the Pediatric Ward due to chronic disease or related complications will participate in the study. The Coping Questionnaire will be used, which allows the evaluation of coping according to the theoretical framework adopted in the study, the child's medical record for the collection of data about their clinical condition and a semi-structured interview script for the evaluation of maternal perception of the child disease. For data analysis, descriptive statistical analyzes and association analyzes will be performed.
