Abstract

The "Estabelecimento Floricultura", founded in 1893 by the German Johann Dierberger (1859-1931), was one of the pioneer firms in the city of São Paulo in the production and trade of plants, as well as the design and execution of gardens. In the publication "Arte & Jardim", from 1928, with the company already named "Dierberger & Cia", there was a list of more than 200 projects designed in the capital, the countryside and in other states. In the countryside, there are pictures of public gardens executed for the cities of Jaboticabal, São Manuel and Rio Claro, being this last one, object of study of the present research. The project previous to this one, from 1922, is the result of a public competition launched by the City Hall in 1900 and by Johann Dierberger. Remodeled by the same firm after 20 years, the garden is still present, in general lines, in the city. The historical rescue of the various elements that were part of the transformations of this public space is the object of analysis of the research. The specific objective is to give continuity to the "Cataloging Essays", adopted as a methodological strategy in previous research, originally inserted in the FAPESP Thematic Project entitled "Erudite and technical knowledge in the configuration and reconfiguration of urban space. State of São Paulo, 19th and 20th centuries" (Process number 05/55338-0).
