Abstract

This project aims at the deepening of a research that has been going on since 2012, on the works of Chilean poet Nincanor Parra (1914-2018), known best for his promotion of the term antipoetry. The research began at first by mapping different questions relative to the poetry of Parra, during our undergraduate studies at UNICAMP, and gained new horizons from 2016 on, when we joined the masters program at USP. During the Masters research, in 2017, we were presented with the opportunity to join the direct-doctorate program, which allowed the investigations to go even further. We are, then, at a third step into our investigations on Nicanor Parras antipoetry, in continuity with the previous step. This project aims at the structuring and development of this step, by widening the analises and references developed so far, as well as by investigating new territories into the works of the author. We use as a main tool for our investigations the rigorous analises of the poems themselves, in order to question what kinds of different readings they support. In doing so, we reflect upon the author’s literary trajectory, as well as on the political and cultural contexts in which he wrote his poems, and on how do they resonate to the reader in today’s context. We are oriented by two axis, which refer to two main guidelines of the investigation: 1) the relations between Parras antipoetry and, on the one hand, the traditional lyrical poetry of the nineteenth century, and on the other the avant-guard poeetry of the twentieth century, with regard to the poetic form of these kinds of poetry and 2) the main characteristics of the subject of the antipoem, in regard to its enunciation. We investigate the works of Nincanor Parra between 1954 and 1985, with attention to his most important poems and books of this period that goes from the publication of Poemas y Antipoemas (1954) to Hojas de Parra (1985). We start at the initial states of development of the Antipoetry, go through the moment of crisis of the antipoem in the 70s, and arrive at the Christian and Ecological poetry Parra wrote in the early 80s. The work will follow the schedule contained in this project, a schedule that has been carefully constructed in a joined effort by the researcher and the supervisor professor, bearing in mind the objectives, the capacity and dedication of the researcher and the time that as already been invested into the work, since the Masters program. Both the researcher and the supervisor feel confident that the schedule will be followed and that the research will be complete by the scheduled deadline. (AU)
