Abstract

Rotating systems are usually considered linear systems during their design phase. However, depending on the geometry of the rotor, geometric nonlinearities can appear during operation due to large deformations and, consequently, angular variations of the loads. If such nonlinearities appear during operation, the dynamic behavior of the machine can be signicantly different from design. The purposeof this research project is understanding the dynamic behavior of such rotors. The mathematical model of the system has been developed at EESC-USP (Brazil), but it requires an experimental validation which will be performed at DTU (Denmark). For that, the unbalance of the rotor will be measured inlaboratory, and the resultant experimental behavior of the rotor will be compared to that predicted by the model. At the end of this project, it is expected to have a mathematical model capable of predicting the nonlinear behavior of the rotating systems during operation. (AU)
