Abstract

The aim of this project is developed walkability indexes and investigate their associations with the practice of physical activity in adults living in São Paulo, SP. It will be a cohort study, using as baseline a sample of adults from the São Paulo Health Survey (ISA) performed in 2015 which will be reassessed in 2020. The walkability indexes will be developed based on indicators of the built environment mixed land use (relationship between businesses, services and residences), street connectivity, number of residences and people in 500 meters, 1,000 meters and 1,500 meters radius around the participants' houses. Available databases of built environment will be used, which were collected through geographic information systems and through auditing process in the places of residence and work environment. Walkability indicators will be built based on previous studies and the indexes will be classified in quintiles. The walkability indexes will be compared with the physical activity data (walking) that were collected between 2014-2015 and that will be collected again in 2020. Linear and multilevel logistic regression analyses will be performed using ISA census sectors and households. The independent variables will be the levels of physical activity. The project will take two years. (AU)
