Abstract

Children's Mental Health has taken a relevant place in both Brazillian and international research. It is known that when dealing with children the act of caring for them besides requiring certain specificities demands a consolidated support network, one of these caregivers being the family. In addition, it is noted that regarding the care provided by the family it is observed a feminization in this process: mothers, grandmothers, sisters or caregivers are markedly more present in the groups for family members conducted in the Child Psychosocial Care Centre (CAPSi). Based on an anthropology literature on mental health and care, it can be seen that care is provided mainly by women, but also that it is a concept that can assume different meanings. Thus, the aim of this project is to identify and to understand the meanings of care for family women, caregivers of children who use the CAPSi services in the downtown area of Santos city. For this purpose, a research based on the ethnographic method will be carried out, prioritizing participant observation for monitoring and listening to these women in the groups and in other spaces in the service, foreseeing, as well, in-depth interviews through phone calls, considering the Covid-19 pandemic. It is understood that the meanings are made up of different social actors in particular contexts and therefore understanding what women have to say about care can also help us to understand their reality.
