Abstract

Lignocellulosic materials, in particular agro-industrial residues, are considered a promising alternative to fossil fuels because they are renewable, low cost, abundant and therefore sustainable. The main components of these materials are mainly cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin and, because they have different physical-chemical properties, directly influence the efficiency of a process of thermochemical conversion. Therefore, determining the chemical composition of these materials is fundamental for your application. The present work aims to determine the chemical composition of sugarcane bagasse and rice husk through thermal analysis from TG / DTG curves. Thermogravimetric analysis is a technique of easy operation, low cost and still requires small amounts of samples for analysis. Due to these advantages have been used for a first rapid determination of the percentage of each components of these materials. The calorific value of these materials for comparison purposes, and then choose the most promising one for application in thermochemical conversion processes. (AU)
