Abstract

The incorporation of SNP with phenotypic information improves the GEBV prediction accuracy. However, it is possible that other genetic effects may be underestimated with this approach. Recently, copy number variations (CNVs) have been described in the literature as a new source of genetic and phenotypic variations, as well as, their association with diversity and disease resistance. CNV regions (CNVRs) were identified near or overlapping of genes and QTLs with relevance to productive traits. Studies with CNVs in sheep are scarce. The aim of this study is identify CNVs in sheep and use this information to evaluate the accuracy gain in GEBV prediction by SNP information enrichment with CNV addition. A total of 387 Santa Inês genotyped males will be used to carry out the analyses. The identification of CNVs will be performed through PennCNV and the CNVRs will be determined by overlapping CNVs identified in different sheep using the GenomicRanges package from Bioconductor software. Then the identified regions will be compared with QTL regions. Additionally, two models will be tested; a reduced model, which considers SNP effect, and a complete model which considers SNP and CNV effect together. (AU)
