This project aims to examine comparatively whether and how parties' organizational characteristics influences the performance of the Brazilian political institutions, particularly by analyzing their effects on national and subnational electoral arenas over time. Based on the comparative analysis of the main political parties, this study aims to address a significant gap in Brazilian politics: to analyze the consequences of party organization differences (intra-party democracy and party strength) on electoral behavior (electoral volatility and electoral concentration), and then discuss their implications for party system and democratic consolidation. In addition, some institutional and sociopolitical control variables will be considered. The proposal is examine eleven parties, covering the period of twenty years (2000 - 2020). (AU)
