This scientific initiation proposal is one of the continuations of the regular research project FAPESP 2017/06236-7 entitled "Identification of a new severity parameter for the hydrothermal pretreatment in multiple stages reactors in transient operation". Recently concluded, the results of this project demonstrate that: 1) the severity parameter as traditionally assessed is not adequate to transient processes and 2) the new proposed severity parameter was capable of characterizing satisfactorily the hydrothermal pretreatment, even in significant thermal transient conditions. However, this was done in a relatively restricted situation, i.e. only one type of fiber (Pinus elliotti sawdust) and for a specific granulometry (between 0.84mm and 1.19mm). Thus, the fundamental objective of this IC consists in validating experimentally the new severity parameter in more comprehensive situations through the methodology developed in the regular project. In addition to the determination of the granulometry influence, one also intends to test other fibrous residues such as, for instance, corncobs and eucalyptus sawdust.
