Abstract

Phytochromes are photoreceptors present mainly in vegetables to perceive and signal various changes that have occurred in the environment. In addition to modulating growth and development (a phenomenon known as photomorphogenesis), phytochromes are also part of abiotic stress response signaling. Evidence shows that, when compared to the wild genotype (WT), mutant tomato seedlings that have deficiencies in the type B phytochrome family, especially B1 (phyB1), are more tolerant to water deficit, a major worrying factor in the cultivation of species with agronomic interest. This evidence leads to the hypothesis that the tomato phyB1 genotype is more tolerant to water deficit for fruit production. Thus, the objective of this research project is to evaluate the role of tomato phytochrome B1 in the modulation of responses to water deficit in production. The experiment will consist of a completely randomized design, with 2x3 factorial design, being 2: WT and phyB1 genotypes, and 3: 100, 75 and 50% daily evapotranspirated water replacements. Growth parameters will be evaluated: (1) vegetative (dry mass, number and total leaf area, length, diameter and stem mass and root length and mass), (2) floral reproductive (plant age at anthesis, number of flowers per plant and inflorescence, as well as the number of aborted flowers), in additional the productive aspects (total yield, mass, number and diameter of fruits per plant, soluble solids and fruit pH. The data will be submitted to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and 5% tukey test. (AU)
