Abstract
The present study aims to evaluate the leukogram and serum protein concentrations, with an emphasis on acute phase proteins and immunoglobulins, in piglets immunized and not immunized against salmonellosis and experimentally infected with Salmonella Typhimurium. For this, two experimental groups will be constituted, composed of 10 piglets each, and which will be submitted to the following procedures: G1: animals immunized with two doses of vaccine against swine pneumoenteritis, with an interval of 21 days and, after 21 days, orally inoculated with 108 CFU of Salmonella Typhimurium; G2: animals not immunized and orally inoculated with 108 CFU of Salmonella Typhimurium. Venous blood samples and rectal swab samples will be collected before 1st dose of vaccine (D-42), before 2nd dose of vaccine (D-21), before inoculation (D0), three (D3), six (D6) and nine days (D9) after inoculation to evaluate the leukogram, serum protein concentrations, by sodium dodecyl sulfate - polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), and to check Salmonella excretion in feces, by microbiological isolation. Immediately before each sampling, the piglets will be submitted to physical examination to evaluate rectal temperature and feces consistency, and the animals will be weighed.
