Abstract Swarm-founding wasps (Epiponini) are endemic and quite common in the Neotropical Region. However, the species diversity of this tribe is greatly underestimated. In addition, the hypothesis of origin in Neotropics has never been tested and studies focusing on the biogeographic history of the groups are scarce. Thus, the aims of this proposal are to intensify the search for data on the occurrence of Epiponini species (through field collections and museum collections) and make them available in public databases, identify specific areas of endemism for the species of the tribe and investigate the possible biogeographic scenarios of origin and diversification within the Neotropical Region using a statistical approach, based on a dated phylogeny of Epiponini with a representative taxonomic sampling.
