Abstract

Given the ability of humans to modify the planet surface, anthropogenic soils will become increasingly frequent. Among them, technosols stand out for the strong influence of human activity on their genesis, containing in their control section more than 20% by volume of materials created, modified or transported by anthropic activity, called artifacts. Mining activity is responsible for causing large impact on the landscape and degradation of natural resources, including the soil. Recent studies show that the use of technosols as a tool to recover areas impacted by mining has been effective. In this sense, one of the objectives of this work is to evaluate the efficiency of technosols built with limestone mining spoils(non vegetated (t = 0), grown with sugarcane (t = 4 and t = 8 years) and with pasture ( t = 22 years)] to restore soil quality, comparing them to natural soils with equal land use. Functions such as soil water infiltration and holding capacity, carbon stocks, nutrient reserve and biological activity will be evaluated. In order to asses the results, soil attributes will be expressed as quality indexes. Additionally, the mechanism of organic matter stabilization will be investigated. For this purpose, the density fractionation of organic matter will be conducted to separate the organo-mineral phase, followed by the separation of sand, silt and clay. The samples will undergo a sequential extraction with different chemicals, each one disrupting a specific kind of bond between the organic matter and the active mineral surfaces. After that, the carbon content of each fraction will be measured. Lastly, the soil mineral phases (sand, silt and clay) will be identified by x-ray diffraction. (AU)
