The mapping of habitats in ecotone zones, due to the existent diversity of environments, require the use of appropriate resources for its investigation (CORBANE et al., 2015). The Geographic Object-Based Image Analysis (Geobia) was consecrated as a robust instrument for automatic extraction of data and geographic mapping (KUX; SOUZA, 2012). This technique will be utilized for the extraction of thirteen typologies of habitats at the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park (Maranhão State, Brazil), from two Landsat 8 satellite images, with date of acquisition at the periods of high and low pluviosity. As indicated for this type of mapping, a spatial association will be made between the habitats and their occurring plants species (CORBANE et al., 2015 apud SCHMIDTLEIN; SASSIN, 2004). It is expected that the vector data of the physical environment produced by this research will be utilized in the Project Socio-environmental Atlas of Lençóis Maranhenses (Nº 2017/26.794-4) and that the parameters tested for the mapping can produce a high accuracy, contributing to the atlas final product and to future mapping of habitats with Geobia.
