Abstract

Urban and periurban agriculture (UPA) is a modality of agricultural production carried out in small areas within cities (intraurban space) or in its surroundings (periurban space) and constitutes one of the alternatives for the reduction of hunger and food insecurity. UPA may be practiced in a variety of forms and production systems, from small-scale production intended only for own consumption to that carried out in urban lots with the application of large capitals. Its benefits are diverse, including income generation, jobs and increased availability of fresh food with high nutritional value. Thus, studying UPA is important to support the development of public policies that encourage its development. The proposed research aims to study UPA in Regente Feijó - SP, which is located in the west side of the State of São Paulo and has its foundation marked by the strong presence of agriculture. (AU)
