Abstract

Postdoctoral fellowships integrate early-career scientists temporarily in research institutions and aim to create the conditions for young scholars to develop their skills and competences. This proposal intends to: a) consolidate PUC Center for Political Psychology as a national research group of excellence on the field; b) carry on the research agenda in Human Sciences notwithstanding the Brazilian Federal Government's decision to cut its funding for the next three years; c) contribute to the PUC/SP's internationalization goal through the expansion of partnerships with institutions in North America; d) allow the candidate to lecture and supervise students at the graduate level; e) continue the development of the research agenda in Political Psychology pursued by the candidate during his doctoral investigation. The research associate to this grant proposal will continue a project funded by FAPESP (Files 2018/01064-6; 2017/00664-7; 2015/26241-0) about the subjective consequences associated with the 'militante' and 'ativistas' collective-action strategies. Its main goal is to examine the role played by the idea of resistance in the context of creation, diffusion, and execution of these two strategies in two well known social movements from the XX century and two contemporary Brazilian collective actions. Resistance is a central piece for building the symbolical coherence of contestatory collective-actions. In the first stage, the research will scrutinize the Brazilian Sanitary Reform and the ACT UP New York to increase the comprehension of the "militante" and "ativista" strategy, respectively. In the second one, the results achieved in the first will be used to analyze two contemporary Brazilian collective actions created in 2019 to contest proposals made by the Brazilian Federal Government - the action "O que eu faço na Federal?" and the campaign "#OBrasilPrecisaDeConselho". The aim here is to make clear not only the idea of resistance underpinning these actions but also follow the subjective consequences of it into the life of protestors. The methodology to be used in this research was created in previous studies and consists in: 1) analyzing primary and secondary data; 2) producing case studies; 3) debating the cases with senior researchers in Brazil and North America. The theoretical framework will be the Transformative Activist Stance. The results will be published in scientific journals and will contribute to the consolidation of the Brazilian Political Psychology. (AU)
