Abstract Studies with literary texts on controversial and sensitive topics are scarce in classroom, since teachers have difficulties in presenting themes that form anew worldview, that are multicultural. Therefore, the choice of this research shape from the reading I made, from the book "The key to size" by Monteiro Lobato1989, in which the author works with the theme of war, a subject much discussed in teaching high school, but little seen in elementary school. Using the text-world connection through Reading Strategies for the critical and reflective formation of a reader proficient, we can assist in building and expanding prior knowledge of the reader. The data referring to Pisa show that Brazil is in a position that cries out for support in relation to reading. We need to find ways to help students understand what they read and help teachers make good use of literature, in addition to of the pretext. The war in the current context needs to be more visible on the school day for students to recognize themselves as belonging to a society and be able to emancipate themselves, since they have different access to newspapers and television. In this perspective, this qualitative investigation aims to activate knowledge student's prior reading of the book and dealing with war through text-to-text connections world that students have with them. Data will be collected through observation participation in rooms of the 5th year of Elementary School and recorded in a Diary of field, after which more books are accounted for and offered to students for the broadening their knowledge.
