Abstract

The mammary gland composes an associated organ of the female reproductive system affected by steroid hormones. Females in the senile phase present a tendency in neoplasms development and tumors in mammary tissue. Therefore, some endocrine disruptors, like bisphenol A (BPA), have been studied due its potential to promote tumor inflammations and cancer in associated organs of the reproductive system. BPA exposure during lactation can alter estrogen receptors and develop persistent neoplasms. Thus, the present study aims to evaluate the disruptor potential of BPA in the mammary gland of aged female gerbils (Meriones unguiculatus), an experimental model that present spontaneous neoplasms development. Five nulliparous females and fifteen lactating females will be used, divided into 4 experimental groups: group 1 - nulliparous; group 2 - oil control; group 3 - low-dose BPA (50 µg/kg); and group 4 - high-dose BPA (5000 µg/kg). The histopathological aspects of the gland will be analyzed: parameters of the epithelium, myoepithelial cells, and stroma fibers. By immunohistochemistry will be analyzed the expression of inflammatory marks TNFa, F4/80 macrophage protein, and metalloproteinases, as well as estrogen (ERa and ERß) and progesterone receptors. It is expected to observe the deleterious effects of BPA in the context of morphological changes and changes in the expression pattern of inflammatory markers in the analyzed tissue. (AU)
