Abstract

The first step in the treatment of Periodontal Disease, Active Periodontal Therapy (TPA), consists of controlling the inflammatory response by eradicating bacterial deposits. Periodontal Support Therapy (TPS) is the second stage, where the disease is controlled and recurrence and progression is prevented through supervised control. The response to treatment varies in patients due to the multifactorial aspect of the disease and the systemic conditions of the patient, such as d Diabetes Melitus (DM). Thus, risk management for progression of periodontal disease and for diabetes control allows individualized planning of visits and frequency of returns in TPS. The objective of this prospective blind randomized controlled trial will be to evaluate in TPS for the control of periodontal disease in diabetic patients, periodontal clinical parameters and self-care parameters for DM (food and exercise) on the impact of clinical compensation. Participants will be randomized into 2 groups: Control Group (n = 20): patients who received TPA and with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM2), who will be evaluated in the following sequence: at the initial consultation, three months , six months, nine and twelve months. Finally, Test Group (n = 20): patients who received TPA and with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM2) who will be evaluated at the initial consultation, two months, four months, six months, eight months, ten months and twelve months. Periodontal risk will be assessed by Lang & Tonetti's diagram while the self-care parameters for DM will be assessed by the Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities Questionnaire-SDSCA .The data obtained before and after the assessments in the established periods will be analyzed by multivariate statistics.
