Abstract

Because of the advance of alternative sources and their intermittent characteristic, some methods of management have emerged to improve the reliability and efficiency of dc microgrids. In addition, the use of storage devices in dc microgrids guarantees the power flow under temporary electrical faults and compensates transient of the power sources. Therefore, this Ph.D. project proposes a dc microgrid composed of energy storage systems and alternative sources (such as fuel cell and photovoltaic systems) for the dc-link power management, storage devices equalization, and the optimization of the alternative source. For this purpose, this project will explore the SoC-Sharing method that uses a Sigmoidal function for battery equalization and the droop technique for alternative source management and transient compensation. Moreover, the energy storage equalization will be studied from different places of voltage measurement, and according to the method to improve and maximize the results. After the equalization process, optimization strategies will be applied considering the behavior of each alternative source, the utility grid demand and also the restoration of the dc-link. Additionally, this project will provide the evaluation of a new topology of dc/dc converters and the dc microgrid stability analysis via the Lyapunov's Indirect Method. Finally, the management and control strategies will be analyzed in the PSIM software and then, compared with the results obtained from the experimental test-bed. (AU)
