Abstract

It is estimated that 200,000 cardiorespiratory arrests (CRA) occur annually in Brazil, and half of them happen in places out-of-hospital - the majority has an acute nature, commonly linked to asymptomatic congenital cardiopathy or acute ischemia. The project Kids Save Lives Brazil develops competencies in laypeople in order to act in cases of CRA, since the proper training of laypeople seems to be related to an increased number of people that can be saved with improvement in victim s prognosis as reduced mortality rate. The project also instructs laypeople about stroke and choking (in adults and infants). A research conducted by Kids Save Lives Brazil with children between 7 and 12 years showed a complete absence of knowledge about CRA in most of the students. These results contribute to show the lack of knowledge, attitude and ability in competencies of communication, health care, leadership and management in scenarios of medical urgency such as CRA, acute stroke, acute myocardial infarction, choking in adults, children and babies. In this sense, the present multicentric study intends to assess these aspects in undergraduate students of diverse academic fields by using an online questionnaire. The results may provide data to the implementation of programs to develop competencies like KIDS SAVE LIVES BRAZIL.
