Abstract

The extensive bone defect or critical defect has been widely studied in recent decades, especially when we think about implant rehabilitation. The main procedure to restore a local architecture is Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR). Among various materials used in procedure, absorbable membranes have fundamental importance to avoid undesirable tissues formation in defects area. The aim of this study will be to evaluate and compare, through histological, histomorphometric, immunohistochemistry and computed micro-tomography (micro CT) analysis, the guided bone regeneration process using porcine pericardium collagen membranes (Surgitime Collagen® Bionnovation), collagen porcine pericardium (Jason® Straumann) and porcine collagen (BioGide® Geistlich), in critical defects created in rat calvaria. In total 96 Rattus norvegicus albinus, Holtzman will be used, divided in 4 groups, with 24 animals for each group: Control group with only clot; Group that will receive porcine pericardial collagen membrane (Jason® Straumann); Group with porcine pericardium collagen membranes (Surgitime Collagen® Bionnovation); and Group called positive control, which will receive porcine collagen membrane (BioGide® Geistlich). Each group will consist of 04 subgroups, according to euthanasia: 7, 15, 30 and 60 days. After experimental periods, the experimental samples will be processed in laboratories according to preparation of each analysis. The collected data will be previously subjected to homogeneity of variance and normality tests, to verify the statistical tests to be used. For inter-group comparisons, one-way ANOVA tests with Tukey's post-test will be used, if the data are parametric; and Kruskal-Wallis with Dunn's post-test, if the data are non-parametric. The level of statistical significance established will be 5%.
