Abstract

The variations of the temperature can be measure bys several systems, and applied in medical area to identify disease em biological tissue. Thus, the devices that act as temperature sensors have been extensively explored to detect the small variations. In this way, the synthesis methodology as well as the lanthanides ions properties, present characteristics that can produce systems with properties that will supply these needs. The goal of this project is to synthesize gadolinium vanadate nanoparticles doped with the lanthanide ions Er3+ and Yb3+ through the non-hydrolytic sol-gel methodology. These ions have special spectroscopic properties, and thermo-sensitive energy levels, which can be excited by small differences of the temperature, and use to in the identification of cancer cells. In addition, the Er3+ ion can be excited by up conversion, and excitation in the infrared region and emission in the visible. The advantage is related to the excitation in the biological windows at 800 and 1400 nm, preventing the absorption of radiation by the water molecules of living organisms and, consequently, increasing the depth of action of the system. The matrix GdVO4:Er3+:Yb3+ will be obtained by the non-hydrolytic sol-gel methodology, the percentage of doping will be studied, temperature and time of the heat treatment. The optical parameters, Fluorescence Intensity Ratio (FIR), relative and absolute sensitivity (Sr and Sa) and Population Redistribution Capacity (PRA) are essential to understand the functioning of the nanothermometer.
