Analysis of the microbiological profile of biofilme formed on modified ceramics with nanoestrutured silver vanadate decorated with silver nanoparticles

The technological advance in the field of nanotechnology allowed the development of nanomaterials that can exhibit antibacterial properties. Although some bacteria have become resistant to antibiotics, they are less likely to develop resistance against metallic nanoparticles, especially silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). However, AgNPs are thermodynamically unstable and have a natural tendency to agglomerate. Thus, a way was developed to stabilize these substances by associating them with vanadate nanowires, forming nanostructured silver vanadate decorated with AgNPs (²-AgVO3). The aim of the present study was to explore the effect of the addition of different percentages of AgNPs (²-AgVO3) on dental ceramics by evaluating biofilm formation through an innovative technique of microscopic analysis, as well as to identify the bacteria that colonize this biofilm. The action on the mechanical properties of the ceramics will also be evaluated. To this end, 14 intraoral devices will be made, where 10 specimens will be fixed in each (2 ceramic trade marks with addition of 0.5%, 1%, 2.5% and 5% of ²-AgVO3) and used by volunteers for 48 hours. For 3D evaluation of the biofilm multifóton microscopy will be used. For the mechanical tests of microhardness and roughness, 10 specimens shall be made according to ISO 6872. The data obtained shall be submitted to statistical analysis with Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality tests and use of parametric ANOVA or non-parametric Kruskal Wallis analysis using a level of significance of 5%.
