Abstract

Studies on paid domestic work in Brazil can have multiple approaches. One of the possibilities is the analysis about the socioeconomic conditions of domestic workers throughout the first decades of the 21st century, in the face of economic fluctuations. This project aims to contribute to the literature on this category of work, based on comparisons on the conditions and profile of women employed in domestic paid work and low-skilled women allocated to other occupations, relating the situation of these two labor markets to periods of economic growth and recession. Three IBGE databases will be used: i) the PME longitudinal microdata, for 2002-2012; ii) the PNAD Continuous (PNADC) longitudinal microdata, for 2012 until the first quarter of 2020; and iii) PNAD COVID19 longitudinal microdata, for the period of the arrival of COVID-19 in Brazil and until the end of 2020. Analyzes will also be performed for subgroups of women, based on the age group and the categories of domestic paid work between monthly and daily. The methodology will include statistical analysis (frequency tables, and density and distributional graphs); and a multiple linear regression approach for the relationship between the transition into and out of the domestic paid work (and categories) and the situation of economic growth or recession in the country. This last approach will also allow verifying the magnitude and sign of the correlations between the status of occupation in domestic employment and the variables that capture the demographic and socioeconomic profile.
