Abstract

Mesial Temporal Lobe Epilepsy with Hippocampal Sclerosis (MTLE+HS) is the most common form of Epilepsy in the adult population, and although broad genome association studies (GWAS) have been performed, no site has identified association with MTLE+HS. An explanation for the inconclusive results of loci associated with this disease may be the presence of genetic heterogeneity between different groups of patients. Therefore, analyzes of population structure that have been used successfully in studies of genetic association in global groups, seem to be a strategy to find loci of susceptibility associated with complex diseases. Using data generated from complete genome sequencing (GWAS), including patients with MTLE+HS and controls (n = 500 patients with MTLE+HS and n=500 controls) and data from gene expression (eGWAS) of surgical material from patients with ELTM, associated to SNP-array, proteomics, and methylome data, a candidate for PD will identify susceptibility loci associated with MTLE+HS and understand how a population structure of both case sampling and control sampling is associated with a disease and how it is understood the ancestry of Brazilian sources. For this purpose, the candidate will compare how this study with other global ones, available in global databases and also in databases such as BIPMed (Brazilian Initiative in Precision Medicine), and this bank will be updated to receive new information from that study.
