Abstract

In Brazil, there are few longitudinal studies evaluating child growth and development, with even more limited data in the Amazon region. The present study aims to investigate child growth trajectories with an emphasis on head circumference, associated factors and impact on child development in the MINA-Brazil birth cohort. Data obtained in the first two years of life, such as perinatal characteristics, morbidities, dietary practices and intestinal microbiota, will be analyzed in order to explore predictors of head growth and child development at the age of five. The proposed project seeks to present scientific evidence that supports public policies focused on promoting maternal and child health, integrating different aspects that compose early childhood. The results may contribute to the definition of priorities and guide programs and public policies to promote growth and adequate development in early childhood, aiming at reducing inequalities in contexts of high social vulnerability.
