Abstract

The possibility that long distance dispersion of Brevipalpus mites (and the viruses they transmit)by phoresis (transport by other organisms, specially by winged) will be investigated. The following appreaches will be employed:(a) examination of insects captured in traps (b) introduction of insects (diptera, coleoptera, lepidoptera, hemiptera, etc.) on Brevipalpus colonies kept on isolated leaves (p.ex. jack bean) and observe possible association between mites and introduced insects (c) in case insect/mite association occurs, further observation will be made to verify transport of mites to other plants.
