Abstract

Understanding the information provided by the doctor about signs and symptoms of common diseases, therapeutic conduct, medication dose, means of dissemination, prevention and treatment methods have become essential so that not only vulnerable populations, but all, can take the best decisions about your own health and your childen's.The objective of this study is to evaluate the health literacy (HL) of the caregivers of children cared at the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Care Center (CEADIPe) and the possible associations of this HL with outcomes related to basic health care.Study participants will be asked to answer a questionnaire containing sociodemographic data, a health literacy scale and an HL assessment tool (S-TOFHLA). On the same day, the patient will undergo consultation with pediatrics, through which data related to the outcomes of interest (weight, height, BMI, vaccination, seeking medical services due to complications in the last 12 months and number of hospitalizations) will be collected. This research is expected to know if HL is a matter of concern in our service and what are the possible repercussions in the care of pediatric patients, enabling the search for strategies to minimize negative outcomes in this population.
