Abstract

Systemic arterial hypertension (HTN) is a growing public health problem in Brazil. In order to decrease the impact of this morbidity in the evolution of cardiovascular diseases, investigation of food consumption along with genetic interactions can assist in understanding main parameters and regulatory mechanisms of blood pressure, capable to identify susceptible individuals to a given exposure or intervention. Objectives: To develop an instrument for measuring diet quality based on updated national health recommendations, evaluate its biochemical validity, and investigate its relationship with HTN risk factors, considering genetic polymorphisms interactions associated with blood pressure in residents of São Paulo, Brazil. Methods: Data were drawn from the 2015 Health Survey of São Paulo with Focus on Nutrition Study (2015 ISA-Nutrition), a cross-sectional population-based study with probabilistic sample of São Paulo residents (n=901). Food consumption data obtained through two 24-hour recalls will be used to develop a diet quality index based on updated health guidelines. The association of the index with cardiometabolic risk factors, demographic, socioeconomic, anthropometric, and lifestyle variables will be investigated using multiple regression models. Index performance will be measured from associations with biochemical variables. Structural equation models will be used to investigate the association between Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) and the diet quality related to HTN. All analyses will be conducted considering the sample design of the study, using Stata software version 14.0 and R version 4.0. (AU)
