Abstract

In December 2019, a disease called COVID-19 had its first reported case in Wuhan, China. Because of its rapid spread around the world, on March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared this disease a pandemic. It is easily transmitted by respiratory droplets with virus (SARS-CoV-2) that are expelled during sneezing, coughing or during speech. Due to this, many cases have been diagnosed so far, June 2020, already adding 8.693.005 people confirmed with the disease. Despite the high number of reported cases, it is a new disease and, because of this, studies are needed to help evaluate the prognosis and the evolution of the patient infected by the new coronavirus. Thus, this study aims to evaluate the quantification profile of vitamin D in patients diagnosed with COVID-19 in the metropolitan region of São Paulo and, comparing the profile of patients without infection, analyze which changes in vitamin D result in impairment of the immune system of infected patients, in order to verify whether it can be considered a biomarker for prediction of this disease. This is because the immunological changes caused by hypovitaminosis D are known, both in the modulation of innate immunity and in adaptive immunity. For this evaluation, we will used blood samples to quantify vitamin D in the body of healthy individuals and infected patients. (AU)
