Abstract

Species in the filamentous ascomycete genus Trichoderma play an important role in producing and efficiently secreting carbohydrate-active enzyme (CAZyme), which are utilized industrially for the hydrolysis of plant biomass for the subsequent production of biofuels and high-value biochemicals. The expression of CAZyme-encoding genes is regulated by the action of several Transcription Factors (TFs) and dependent on the carbon source available in the extracellular medium. Additionally, studies have shown that abiotic factors, such as light, play a considerable role in the regulation of plant cell wall degrading enzymes. Therefore, the elucidation of the genetic mechanisms of the light in the expression of hydrolytic enzymes in different strains is necessary and can assist the bioprospecting of potentially hydrolytic fungi of the genus Trichoderma. Thus, by investigating the structure of the genome and the level of expression of target genes in light and dark conditions, we aim to study the influence of light on the expression of hydrolytic enzymes in strains of the genus Trichoderma. Exploiting of light-dependent effects will be crucial to generate strategies for the selection and improvement of Trichoderma species, especially in the production of enzymatic cocktails used in the saccharification of lignocellulosic substrates.
