Abstract

When nursing care omissions occur (partial or total omissions of plans or interventions), patient safety can be compromised, increasing the risk of negative consequences on patient's experience and results, quality, and costs of healthcare. The constant operational failures of health systems divert the actions of nurses towards the momentary resolution of difficulties. With such demands, nurses may not be able to meet the patient's needs and thus, amid multiple demands and limited resources, nurses may shorten, delay or even omit care. In pediatrics, nursing care omissions are even more relevant, given the vulnerability and specificities of this population. Objective: Perform the translation and transcultural adaptation of the MISSCARE Survey-Ped instrument for use in Brazil. Method: Methodological study proposed in the following steps: translation, synthesis of translation, back-translation, back-translation analysis, and cultural analysis of the adapted version by a committee of experts. Health professionals and laypeople with English language knowledge will make up the team of translators. Subsequently, a committee of five experts, formed by specialists in pediatric nursing and patient safety, will have the task of developing the final version of the instrument. This version will be analyzed by pediatric nurses from all regions of Brazil (15 to 20 professionals) for cross-cultural validation analysis. Data will be collected after ethical approval, through research instruments in a virtual environment, and later analysis using the Content Validity Index (CVI), previously stipulated at least 80%. Expected results: A culturally adapted version for Brazilian Portuguese of the MISSCARE Survey-Ped is expected, so that it can contribute to the identification of omitted care and the reasons for the omission in Brazilian pediatric units, in order to generate subsidies capable of promoting improvements in pediatric nursing care outcomes and patient safety.(AU)
