Abstract

The behavior of SARS-CoV-2 infection is usually more severe among elderly individuals and people with comorbidities. Down syndrome (DS), a genetic non-rare condition that affects about 1 in each 800 born alive worldwide, is associated with comorbidities such as diabetes and congenital heart defects, as well as immunological disorders that make them more susceptible to respiratory infections. A greater chance of complications and unfavorable outcomes has already been demonstrated in patients with DS infected by SARS-CoV-2. Aims: Understand and systematize the current state of scientific knowledge about the behavior of SARS-CoV-2 infection in people with DS. Methods: This is an integrative systematic review from primary and secondary studies developed with qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methodology, in English or Portuguese, which portray the proposed theme. The research will be performed in three databases, based on descriptors chosen by the "Medical Subject Headings". Expected results: Contribute to the synthesis of scientific knowledge produced on this topic, helping to integrate understanding and thus helping to identify gaps in the area. (AU)
