Abstract

Global climate change poses a major threat to agricultural production and food security around the world, especially in the tropics. This proposal for a postdoctoral fellowship project aims to genetically transform maize and Arabidopsis thaliana to interrogate the function of abiotic-stress-related genes. The project involves the cultivation, optimization of transformation protocols, and evaluation of the role played by genes discovered in the GCCRC pipeline, mainly the ones related to mitochondrial metabolism. As for maize transformation, the grantee will work in collaboration with the transformation team to optimize the process. (AU)
