Abstract

Historically, universities have little indigenous presence. In Brazil, in the 21st century, strategies were created based on the demands of the indigenous movement, culminating with the implementation of affirmative actions in some universities. Thus, since 2007, at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar) undergraduate courses have an extra vacancy for indigenous, through specific entrance exams, which provoked the insertion of these in undergraduate medicine. However, little has been investigated about who these indigenous peoples are, which peoples, and what their academic and professional trajectories are. It is known that some left graduation, but the motivations for this evasion. Furthermore, the strategies impacted the permanence and completion of the course. So, the purpose of this research is to understand the historical trajectory and the experiences related to the permanence of indigenous medicine students at UFSCar. will be sought to map those who entered the course from 2007 to 2020, recognizing the experiences and factors related to permanence, evasion, and completion of the course. Exploratory research with a qualitative approach will be carried out, with the use of semi-structured interviews and document analysis, with thematic content analysis. It is expected to know how the indigenous people have experienced the medical course, interpersonal relationships, strategies of coping with difficulties, and ways of living and living in medical school.(AU)
