Abstract

This internship in France was conceived as a crucial step of our doctoral research, which will lead to the thesis A 21st Century Mallarmé (or Reading (re)translation as relation and crisis). It will, indeed, allow us access to research material that is inexistent, inaccessible, or hardly found in Brazil. The main titles we have previously selected include some rare works of Mallarmean critique that are actually based on (re) translation or (re) translative approaches. These will help us check the length of our hypothesis regarding the absence of translative perspectives within 21st Century Mallarmean Studies. They also include very recent works, published throughout the first two decades of the 21st Century, which, as we suppose, are deeply connected to the ideas of crisis and relation, though almost never referring to (re) translation or related matters - this is another hypothesis we will seek to verify. In addition to that, there are complementary works of general interest, very useful to the understanding of subjects such as the path of Mallarmean Studies, Mallarmé's reception, his prose and its (re)translations, his late writing, among others. Briefly, what we intend with this research project is to explore, investigate, and study 303 works, found in the collections of the National Library of France, Paris VIII Library, Jacques Doucet and Sainte Geneviève Libraries, and the Sorbonne Library.
