Abstract

Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, in addition to belonging to the ESKAPE group, are global priority pathogens resistant to antibiotics. Knowing the importance of discovery by new antimicrobial drugs and the scarce options in the treatment of infections caused by these microorganisms, the search for alternative therapies is of fundamental importance and the use of herbal medicines represents a valuable source for obtaining these drugs. In the present study, the antimicrobial action of the glycolic extract of Salvia officinalis on planktonic cultures and monotypic biofilms of Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa will be evaluated. First, the broth microdilution test will be performed following the CLSI M7-A6 protocol, to determine the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and the Minimum Microbicidal Concentration (CMM). Subsequently, the antibiofilm action of the extract will be analyzed by the MTT test, using concentrations above the CMM, for a contact time of 5 min and 24 hs. The data will be analyzed by the Graphpad prism 5.0 software with the ANOVA test complemented by the Tukey test with 5% significance (p <0.05%). (AU)
