Abstract

Background: genital prolapse is a growing disease and there are several factors involved in its pathogenesis. Genetically, it is a disease that is caused by an alteration of collagen and elastin; however, not all factors are known to be responsible for it. The homeobox gene (HOXA) is possibly related to this disease. Objectives: to assess the protein and immunohistochemical expression of the HOXA11 gene of women with genital prolapse and control patients (no genital prolapse) Methods: A prospective study with 50 women with genital prolapse will be performed at CAISM and 50 women without genital prolapse (control group) and sampling will be sent to perform RT-PCR, western blot and immunohistochemistry for the identification of HOXA11 gene. Expected results: We believe that by the identification of the protein expression., HOXA11 gene may serve as a predictor of genital prolapse for these patients. Time schedule: twelve months for data collection and sampling storage; six months to analyze data and prepare a manuscript for submission.(AU)
