Abstract

The 2030 Agenda of the United Nations (UN) established the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and among them the SDG 12 related to responsible production and consumption addresses, in addition to several other goals, the need to reduce by half the waste of per capita food in the world and reduction of food losses along the entire production chain. In this sense, this scientific initiation project, which is part of a larger and integrating project of the student's guiding teacher, aims to investigate the main causes that lead to the waste of fruits and vegetables in supermarkets, with these products representing the greatest waste rates. The methodology will be qualitative research, with systematic literary review, in addition to a case study. The case study will be a supermarket located in the municipality of Marília where it is intended to conduct interviews with the managers responsible for the stores, managers responsible for the fruit and vegetables section (FLV), employees of this sector and the reception. It is intended to use A Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) to analyze the causes of food waste in order to identify the root/priority causes. The results of this research will help to identify the causes of food waste in order to signal the need for improvements in management. (AU)
