Abstract

Dental caries is conceptualized as a multifactorial, biofilm-sugar-dependent disease. The use of phosphate-releasing agents and nanoparticles has raised great interest in the optimization of restorative materials aiming to potentiate their effects in caries control, as well as to improve their mechanical and bioactive properties, thus returning oral health to the individual. This study aims to evaluate the effect of incorporation of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) and sodium trimetaphosphate microparticles (TMP) in resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RGIC) on the physical-mechanical properties. Specimens will be made of each material (n=6): 1) RGIC without ZnONPs/TMP (Control); 2) RGIC with 1.0 % ZnONPs; 3) RGIC with 2.0% ZnONPs; 4) RGIC with 14.0% TMP; 5) RGIC with 1.0% ZnONPs and 14.0% TMP and 6) RGIC with 2.0% ZnONPs and 14.0% TMP (% m/m). The physical-mechanical properties of the RGIC will be determined: Diametric tensile strength, Compressive strength, Material hardness, and Surface roughness. For statistical analysis, the values of the physical-mechanical tests will be considered as variables (tensile strength - MPa, compressive strength - MPa, material hardness - KHN, and surface roughness - RS). The data will be submitted to normality and homoscedasticity tests to apply the statistical analysis best suited to the data distribution. The statistical program Sigmaplot® for Windows version 12.0 will be used, with significance at the 5% level.(AU)
