Abstract

The concept of gender has gained centrality for some conservative movements, which focused on reaffirming the values of a Christian-conservative family model as a way of confronting a supposed "gender ideology". The defenders of this discourse believe that the discussion on gender and sexuality detracts children and young people from the "moral" path. Thus, the fight against "gender ideology" constitutes a political and even legal agenda, whose reverberations are perceived both through the various political projects that are being processed in the chambers, as well as through the propagation of courses, lives, workshops, and books on the subject by the conservative anti-gender networks. This activism that proposes to "rescue the traditional values of society and the Christian family" has helped to produce a range of anti-gender materials that provide feedback to public discussions on bills that focus on issues related to the LGBTQIA+, feminist and black movements. This research, therefore, aims to ethnography some courses, as well as build a cartography of anti-gender publications in Brazil and other Latin American countries, in order to understand how the concept of "gender" has been central in the production of discourses that aim not only to build a conservative sense for the concept but also to rearticulate normative discourses in order to defend an idea of religious freedom and protection of the rights to exercise a Christian faith and morality.
