Abstract

The knowledge of the harmful effects that exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation promotes on the skin has led to the population's awareness of the routine use of sunscreens, as well as the advancement of scientific research to improve the efficacy and safety of these formulations. Sunscreens can reflect and/or absorb UV radiation, however, they do not demonstrate relevant effectiveness against free radicals, which, in the skin, are responsible for oxidative damage to DNA, premature aging, and skin cancer. Natural products have antioxidant activity, so rosmarinic acid was selected, an ester of caffeic acid, with proven benefits for the skin tissue. Three samples will be prepared with UVB filters: ethylhexyl methoxycinate, octocrilene and Ethylhexyl salicylate associated with rosmarinic acid. The samples will be evaluated by in vitro assay of photoprotective efficacy and ex vivo of the antilipoperoxidative property. The results will present perspectives of practical application in the research area of photoprotective and antioxidant cosmetic products, adding a new non-invasive method, to be used for the complementary analysis of photoprotective efficacy.(AU)
