Abstract

Liver transplant (LT) is the treatment option for many patients with a diseased liver. Patients with fulminant hepatitis, hepatocellular carcinoma, hepatitis B, hepatitis C and alcoholic cirrhosis are eligible for LT. 2050 LT were performed in Brazil in the year of 2020, number only second to the US. One of the most common complications found on the liver peritransplant (LP) is acute kidney injury (AKI). This clinical condition is characterized by an abrupt loss of renal function. A study conducted at the Hospital das Clínicas da Universidade de São Paulo (HC-FMUSP;) showed an AKI incidence of 78% in the LP. This retrospective study based on patients electronic health records intends to analyze the incidence and prevalence of AKI in the LP; the most probable causes and risk factors to AKI development; the AKI stages and progression to chronic kidney disease 1 year after LP; and the AKI impact on mortality and liver graft rejection.
