Abstract

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are released by cells and mediate cell-cell communication. Several studies have demonstrated that EVs play a vital role during cancer progression by exchanging intercellular proteins and acid nucleic to the tumor microenvironment contributing to angiogenesis, tumor growth, and therapy resistance. EVs are able to transfer the malignant phenotype to normal cells and establish, locally and systemically, a favorable microenvironment to the tumor proliferation and motility promoting metastasis. As an alternative to control this process, our group and others have shown that melatonin attenuates cancer initiation, progression, and metastasis, suggesting that the treatment with melatonin may promote changes in EVs content that are related to the cancer progression. Based on these findings, the aim of this project is to evaluate the effect of EVs-derived breast cancer triple negative MDA-MB 468 and CF-41 with or without melatonin treatment on the growth, motility, and phenotypic changes of canine and human breast cancer cells.(AU)
