Abstract

Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) are electric energy generation or storage technologies placed near the consumers on a distribution system. Distributed photovoltaic generation, battery energy storage systems and electric vehicles are examples of DERs whose presence is notably increasing. Despite the benefits provided by DERs, such as economic gain for the consumer, their high penetration level creates new challenges in the operation of Electrical Power Systems (EPSs). Conventional EPSs were planned considering the unidirectional power flow, from centralized generators to the consumers, and the inversion of this flow, potentially caused by the behavior of DERs, can cause power quality and protection issues. Thus, for the proper operation of the new EPSs, the dispatch control of DERs and other equipments becomes essential. This project proposes the development and validation of a methodology to obtain the optimal multi-objective dispatch of DERs in distribution systems based on the Optimal Power Flow (OPF) problem, allowing the knowledge of an optimized operational point in relation to the defined objectives, such as minimizing grid losses, the number of control actions, improving system security among other objectives.
