Abstract

The theme of women's rights and women's suffrage gained an impact at the beginning of the 20th century. The press narrated the actions of the English militants, at the same time that feminist and Latin American women's associations also articulated to demand the rights of equality. These growing political mobilizations aroused criticism in public opinion, which used different approaches to delegitimize, ridicule and produce distrust of the feminist movements. The purpose of this research is to analyze the anti-feminist positions, published between 1904 and 1918 in the illustrated humorous magazines PBT (Argentina) and O Malho (Brazil). The perspective of comparative history is evoked to understand the similarities and particularities of antifeminisms in each country. The caricatures, chronicles and vignettes present in the magazines had a sexist humor, which satirized the feminism and the search for equal rights. (AU)
